# Receipts

A receipt records payment received from the guest.

## Flow

Issued, then applied to one or more invoices or charge notes.

- **Reversed** — Payment voided or taken back, for example after a lost dispute. Recorded with a
  **payment reversal note**.
- **Refunded / Partially refunded** — Money returned after a successful payment. Recorded with a
  **refund note** for each refund.
  - **Refund reversal note** — Issued when a refund never reached the guest: the payment provider
reported that the refund failed, or a refund of a manually recorded payment (bank transfer,
cash, cheque, point of sale) bounced or was recorded in error. It cancels the refund note in
full, and the refunded amount goes back on the receipt as open balance. The receipt steps back
from Refunded to Partially refunded (if other refunds remain) or to Issued. That balance can
then be refunded again, allocated to an invoice, or moved to another booking.

See [Refunds and reversals](/finance-and-accounting/payments/refunds-and-reversals/).

## Types of receipt

Most workspaces use a **regular receipt** — standard guest payment against rent or fees.

Some workspaces also use deposit or downpayment receipt types. Confirm with Lavanda which receipt
types apply to your workspace.

Receipt type is visible on the document. Business labels on the underlying payment (for example
ARP — advance rent payment) may not always appear on the receipt document itself, but they are
visible on the payment — see [Payments](/finance-and-accounting/payments/).

## Applying to charge documents

One receipt can pay one or several invoices, in full or in part.

Allocations show how much of the receipt went to which charge document.

When a receipt or invoice is issued, Lavanda often auto-allocates — oldest receipt to oldest open
charge (see [Allocations](/finance-and-accounting/allocations/)).

## Example

Invoice for 1000. Guest pays 600; receipt applied; 400 still owed. Guest pays 400; invoice fully
paid.
